Swinging is fun!!!!

We had our 9 month check-up yesterday at our new pediatrician. Growing is definitely not a problem for these babies. Here are the vital stats:

Sara - 21 lbs 6 oz, 28 3/4 inches tall

Julian - 22 lbs, 9 1/2 oz, 30 inches tall, and still waiting for that sippy cup with an umbrella in it

North Kackalacki

We are getting used to the pace here in the south. As most of you know, patience is not one of my (nor Melissa's) virtues, so it will take some getting used to. I don't even think they know what it means when I honk the horn. Serenity now! We'll try to post some funny sightings from our new adventure. For instance, we had to take a written test to get a NC driver's license. There was a large section in the manual devoted to "Rules for children riding in the back of pick-up trucks." Also, you know how they have those overhead signs at the grocery store telling you what is in that particular isle? Well, apparently moonpies are important enough here to get their own sign. And what exactly is a "pork cracklin" anyway?

One of the few times we actually got them both to look at the camera at the same time.

Sara and Julian are changing everyday. They are lightening fast and scatter in different directions as soon as you put them on the floor. Sara thinks about situations and tries to figure out solutions, while Julian relies on brute strength and his large head (which he uses as a 5th appendage) to get where and what he wants. Sara has 1 tooth and Julian has 4. Their personalitiers are as different as night and day. Sara is quite the drama queen and bosses Julian around. Julian is a happy-go lucky baby that thinks that he doesn't need to nap.....ever!

Our first swimming pool. Notice Julian lounging poolside waiting for mommy to bring him a fruity beach drink.

Irony

Erik and Melissa spent 15 years living in Rochester, all of it either going to school or working at the University of Rochester. The mascot for the University of Rochester is the Yellow Jacket. They leave Rochester and buy their first house in Asheville, NC. Erik's first official duty as new homeowner is to mow the lawn. Erik buys self-propelled Toro mower. Erik puts on iPod (the album was Rush's 2112) and begins to mow lawn. About half-way done, Erik mows over a small hole in the ground. Acting childishly, Erik proceeds to stomp on hole, hoping to annoy any said rabbit or mole that lives beneath. Suddenly, Erik feels numerous painful, sharp sensations over his legs and hears an odd buzzing sound. What happens next is a bit blurry, but involves a world-record sprint to the shower, leaving iPod, sneakers and clothes strewn about the lawn and garage, filled with angry yellow jackets.

Otherwise, the move is going well. We are getting settled in and finally have all of our old appliances. The office, meaning the desktop and all the required cords to download pictures, have yet to be unpacked. Hooking up the desktop is next on my list of things to do, and then I promise lots of updating and pictures.
